What a depressing read  . Onto Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' now. In the same genre  .

The Doors of Perception is a better read. The other two are downers. I recall starting Irvine Welsh's 'Glue'. It's a collection of short stories, each one more depressing than the previous so I just shelved it.

1984 is a little ray of sunshine compared to Orwell's keep the aspidistra flying.
The main character is 30 years old and Orwell depicts his life for all intents and purposes being over.

Enjoyed Trainspotting ... Very in tune with the time/place and vibe ... But as a film that hasn't aged well or done justice via a sequel.

I read 1984 this spring. I loved it but I am a huge Bowie fan so lots of parts of it actually made me smile.

If you enjoy irvine welsh his best book in my opinion is marabu stork nightmares.
Read again recently after many years on the shelf. Pretty f****d up but brilliant read.

Sorry Dave but no, I didn't even know we were old friends, even though when I came round to your house to drop off my 'Brian Crawford specialist Eel rods' for you to refurbish we seemed to get on ok😁😁

It certainly makes one feel uncomfortable whilst reading, just waiting for ‘filth’ to be delivered, it’s had some good reviews.

Clockwork Orange is a very twisted film with sadistic gratuitous violence which has been touted by critics as a great film, but is complete tosh and needs kicking in the yarboes.
