Lure fishing for Pike.

Post by G4zza »

Hi all, can anyone please recommend a decent book on lure fishing for pike? I understand the different types of lure through my Bass fishing. So looking more for information on types depending on weather conditions, water clarity, weed, current etc.

These are 3 books that I found informative ........

Lure Fishing by Dave Pugh , Presentation & Strategy ..... pretty indepth .
Modern Lure Fishing , Barrie Rickards ... Guest chapters , James Holgate , Gord Burton etc .
Catch Pike with Lures by James Holgate also with guest chapters .

All out of print , but should be available on ebay .
Also check out Coch-y-bondhu books

Nevs big water pike has a good lure section, as does big water pike by James holgate, depends where you're fishing tho as they focus more on lochs and glacials.

A good read non the less. As above I'm sure there's more on the bookshelf at home but am out at the mo

If your not restricting yourself to UK writers.

Pike Fever by Jens Bursell.
Very comprehensive and up to date, includes handling, tackle and release rigs for lures.

Crankbait Secrets by Joe Bucher
USA master lure maker and someone who gave me the tip that resulted in my first lure caught 20.

Sorry, no.

I now realise that a 25th anniversary edition :afraid: might be worth doing for next year! :dizzy:

Only asked as it was computerised. I'd definitely buy a paperback version, just didn't want to read it on my phone lol

Jens Bursell use to do the odd article for PnP when James was editor, always an interesting read.

Jens Bursell really is a modern day thinking angler who's work on increasing the hook-up success for sea trout was groundbreaking and led to release rigs for pike.
Most of his work is published in the European angling press and well worth reading.
