Hedgehog Utopia

Post by Cyprio »

I know some off you won't get to see hogs in your gardens so thought I would share how blessed we are..
We feed and water them every night and have been for the last couple of years.
These six were this evening about 9:20. Watched them come running from their hides to the food.

:hump: Scratchy the male has been :hump: every night for the last four weeks lucky hog :hissy:

I was mixing some bait in my shed last Friday, already had one inside by my feet then this one turned up.

Sad lack of them down this way.
My opinion may offend, but it's only an opinion that may differ to your's.
It doesn't make me wrong.

Have a soft spot for hedgepigs, Dawn and I used to run a little rescue centre from home for them, had about 20 of them one winter, nice little things!

Here's the other in the shed with me.

Alan ref food did you or anyone else that feeds them have any recommendations that you found they like?
As their quite fussy with some foods and we want to give them a varied diet as possible.

Although at dusk they come running from their beds, they do go off foraging after a quick munch and a drink
Which is good to see, it's like they use us for breakfast before they start their night shift
No slug problem in our garden. Just wished they could work out that Hosta's collect snails.

We don't know how many others come into the garden as theirs always one or two showing on the camera
Through the night.
The most we have seen is seven together.
Hopefully we will get to see some babies this year, so far they have been camera shy.

Andy, cat food that doesn't contain fish is generally accepted as ok for hogs, we used to mix that with a bit of water

We found a couple of babies by the side of a busy road in broad daylight, took them to a wildlife sanctuary and a fortnight later they rang us and asked if we wanted them back,we had them and released them onto our paddocks

Last season a lad on the LAS forum posted a photo of a nice Perch around the three-pound mark. And also a photo of a Hedgehog that he saw along the way, more or less to a man everyone commented on the "Hog" and not the fish. That to me speaks volumes, nice Perch ten a penny the little "Hogs" much less so. Cracking photo's gents.

This thread's prompted me to dig out my trail cam and check that the run under the fence was made by a hedgehog and not rats! I knew something had used it last night because I'd strimmed the grass weeds yesterday and covered the hole up. Something had pushed its way through. Sure enough it was a little hedegpig. A bit camera shy though.
