Beautiful bird, but I wouldn't want one in my garden.
My opinion may offend, but it's only an opinion that may differ to your's.

if you feed the birds you very likely to get one pay regular visits, so fast you you wont see them-- just grab and gone in seconds---that's nature

Excellent photo of a stunning bird, I work on the idea that by feeding the birds I am feeding "all" the birds so for all those saved from the winter by having three squares a day, the odd one going to a predatory bird is balanced and so saves the hawks too.
its the same reason why I like to see squirrels and even the odd rat on the bird table, I dont choose who to feed and who not to.
The hawks tend to go for the doves that sh1t on my car, the foul ar5ed gits and so I cant get enough of them! :laughs:

Look on them like Pike, the prey fish arrive and so do the Pike. The Hawks are no different.

I said I wouldn't want one of those in my garden (I did once see one on my lawn)

But yesterday I was watching the birds on my feeders and in particular a woodpecker on a peanut feeder hanging from a pergola.

I saw a flash come in from the right and the woodpecker darting away at speed.

Then a sparrowhawk landed on the pergola right above the feeder, having missed his chance.

He stood there looking around with those angry looking eyes, before he flew off.

My garden was devoid of birds for at least an hour.

maybe he has been visiting..

My pet Sparrowhawk comes and goes.
When its been around the spaggies are inside the hedge and feed intermittently for a day or two, when its not they are fighting and argueing all over the place.
Its done a good job on a neighbours white doves keeping their number to a sensible level and the same with the local population of collared doves.

All part of the rich tapestry of life.

Just wish Sparrowhawks would take cats :hammer:

Bird tables that get regular visits usually see the residents grabbing a beak full and darting into cover to eat it. To stay out in the open is risky and they know it
