I wouldn't worry too much about being exact Kev, I made them to suit the wood I had, not far off though.

to be honest I only wanted the hole size as I know a lot of birds like a certain entrance size---Ive looked at Lumby's RSPB link for a swift box--- and it seems a very small entrance of 25mm x 65mm considering how fast they approach the nest.

Saying that I did see a yellow wagtail that had a nest in a steel piling on the Trent, its entrance hole was a 1inch /25mm ish bolt hole and it didn't even slow down on entering it, I kept expecting to see 2 unattached wings flutter down to the water :laughs:

Are you playing the swift calls?

I put up two boxes under the eaves on my mid terrace house. Installed a tweeter speaker linked to an MP3 player to play the calls to attract breeding swifts. No joy yet.

However lots of screaming birds around so hopefully just a question of time...

No I actually did think about it. Mind you, to date we have no Swift here getting a bit worrying.
