Double surprise at pond.

Post by Essex Lucius »

There's a small pond ten minutes walk from home, a third of an acre perhaps, it's in farmland next to a small copse.

Never bothered fishing it until this week, float and maggots, Rudd and roach galore and two small tench. All good fun.

Better than the fishing though was a sparrowhawk flying right in front of my swim so close to me that I felt the turbulence caused by it's feathers. It took up a perch in the willow above me for a few minutes, I could see it cleaning it's bill, it then flew to it's nest which I hadn't noticed which was very closeby.

That was great but to top it off 20 minutes later a grass snake swam right in of me from one side of the pond to the other, never seen a living one before. Wow.
