Falconry display
Bloody hell those birds shift. I didn't manage to get any in focus shots of them in flight. Much easier when they're perched!
The owl was great with the kids he had lined up in two rows for it to fly between. All my photos of that were crap! I think things like this get children into wildlife more than the RSPB and it's reserves where they won't let you anywhere near the birds. The final run for the owl was with the kids kneeling down low and it came right over their heads. Magic!
The falcon on the perch belonged to a different display. Something to do with Game of Thrones - whatever that is...

Re: Falconry display
You did well, Dave
Falconry displays where falcons are flown to a swung lure are very misleading to the public as most go away thinking that they've seen falconry being practiced.
Falconry is the sport of flying a trained falcon at prey that is in its natural habitat whereby it has a sporting chance of escape.
Flying a falcon at a swung lure is merely exercising the bird for fitness purposes and so should not be classed as falconry.
As I only fly my saker falcon to a swung lure, I cannot call myself a falconer as I don't hunt him

Re: Falconry display
I expect these displays are as much about falconry as a collie driving ducks over tiny bridges is about sheep dog work.
They make a great spectacle though with two falcons in the air zipping low over the crowd's heads.

Went for another bash today. No improvement!
I did get the picture I wanted of the owl though. A much less taxing subject!

Re: Falconry display
It's a really good bit of entertainment. Went down really well with falcon's whizzing about almost bumping people's heads. One made the bloke stood next to me duck today!

Re: Falconry display
Excellent stuff, if I could have had another hobby in my life it would have been falconry, went on a experience day a few years ago bolting rabbits to Harris hawks, was a great day.
That owl has such a intense face face. Great shots
