Sunrise after a night of snotties.

Gotta love this time of year.
72 hours a float and rewarded by an amazing sunrise.
First pic at 6:36
Next left rod away just before 7 then just after 7.
Not the best quality as on iPhone.
With bream rolling all around the atmosphere was magical.
Roll on the colder weather

At least you knew what they were.
There the best bite indicator for bream fishing from a boat.
They move with the boat but if one moves differently to the others it’s fish on.
Had to make them myself as there like hens teeth now.

Very atmospheric.
I wonder why swingtips ever went out of fashion? Probably because they were too foolproof and long lasting for the big tackle companies, compared to more expensive (profitable) gagetry.
I have a few nice Drennan ones somewhere. I'll have to dig them out for next season as I've got just the rod for them!
(Ignore the floats - they're for another occasion.

I've still got a couple of swing tips that get out when roaching/breaming. They are much more relaxing to watch than a quiver tip as the eyes age.

What about spring tips??
I once read somewhere that the tension decreased the more they bent, something to do with the properties of a spring. I couldn't subscribe to that train of thought!

I used to have a pair of 11ft E T Barlow & Sons (Vortex) leger rods with swing tip threads whipped on the butt section, so that you could use them 'in line'. Quite a neat idea that worked very well. I've not seen that on any other rods, before or since.
(Sadly both disappeared along with the rest of my rods, reels and loads of other gear taken by thieving scumbags, back in the early 1990s
).

I think those attachments were available to add to rods. I have this vague image-memory of an illustration in a magazine or catalogue.

I had a clip on the butt swing/quiver tip back in the late 80's. You slid the spring forward to make it swing and back for spring. Worked really well to convert a float rod into leger rods when we all I only had one rod.

Andy,
A late friend of mine had a thirty from there, it used to have public access at certain times of year, provided you joined the right club. At the momment that venue could be described Pike wise, as right water wrong time.
Back end of the season could be another story face.
Photo wise you hit the jackpot.

The larder was full with the doors wide open.
But I fear the dynamics of the place have now been compromised for eternity
For the sake of clear water.
Definitely an area that fits the grass should be greener but there's too many ducks to line up.
Much better pickings to be had elsewhere with a larger window of opportunity..
