Look 2nd hand Steve... but in terms of optics you are restricting yourself on that price.

Would never dream of taking mine, but a cheap pair are next to useless Dave, though its horses for courses... I have the swarz's 8.5x42 steve, exceptional optics and light,

I had a look through a mate's Swarovskis and they really were superb. Mind your for £1300 or whatever they cost they ought to have been!

Re: Binoculars
Look at your Camera and subsequent len's Dave, I'm sure you would not be taking a £100 outfit and expecting anything less than mediocre, optics etc really is about quality, and that comes at a price.
But would I take mine fishing... No way...

Re: Binoculars
If stowability and weight are a factor, what about a compact monocular? I generally keep mine in my coat pocket.
I use one as I have seriously impaired vision through my right eye, so binoculars are no good for me. (Ironically, there's nothing wrong with the eye, it's my brain that's the problem - no surprise there then. )
I guess they'd be no good for counting the feathers on a thrush'es throat, but are OK for being nosey.

Re: Binoculars
My wife bought me a pair of Nikon Sporter 10x42, think they retail around 200squid. Theyre made for out door life being water proof to 1m and have some sort of gas inside em to prevent steaming up. I wasnt expecting them to be that great but they a bloody brilliant. Well worth the extra 50squid mate.

Re: Binoculars
I cant remember if mine are Bushnells or Opticrons, but they were sub £150 and I'm fairly happy with them.
Mind you, the geezer in the shop let me take a pair of Leicas outside by way of comparison and it was like someone had switched a light on! Simply awesome!
(And so they should be at £800 plus. )

I'll be interested to hear how you find them. My £25 bins are just about knackered.
