I like the shadow of it's foot on the rear wing, but I'm sure you'll get better pics.

Experience has taught me to always look at reflections, baits, restricted zones, applied heat or cold, etc, etc.
No offence, setting up a subject is all part of the skill.

Awesome shot!

The shadow of the foot and the slight blur on the wingtips makes it for me

That's a corking shot Dave!

If you baited the perch to draw the bird in it is of no significance to me. I don't think a picture like that is intended as a record of a nature moment. I think pictures like your's are a pre-considered attempt to artistically capture an aspect of a natural subject, to create a dynamic and compelling image, and you've nailed it! it's a masterpiece. I'd be chuffed to bits to have taken that.

(I'd also be wishing the wing had been a fraction lower to better showcase that striking head and colourful plumage, but I'm never 100% happy with any of my pictures. )
I don't care who your dad is , you're not walking across the river when I'm fishing!

Looks amazing to me! I do miss having a nice camera and lens. Would love another SLR to photograph some of the reptiles I go looking at every year.
