Wheres all the acorns
Bumper year last year in Northern Ireland for acorns. Was out yesterday and found just four. Couldn,t find any on the ground under the trees and none on the trees. According to what i,ve read , trees have " mast years" where theres tons of acorns, berries etc. Other years, hardly any. Any acorns where you are lads ?

Plenty here. Tree rats and jays are having a whale of a time.

There are half a dozen Jay's hoarding away what there is around me, but nowhere near as many about as last year.
Worse is the number of Hawthorn berries or lack of them. Last year the tree's were ramming, this year very sparse.

Hardly any acorns on the oaks round my way either. The Holly bushes and trees are heavy with berries though, same as last year.

Re: Wheres all the acorns
I read somewhere about the wet spring being disastrous for acorns. Apparently dry winds are really good for pollination, hence why last year was a bumper year, and damp conditions really hampered pollination. I will see if I can find a link.

Re: Wheres all the acorns
Frosts in late May ruined any plums this summer, but my Rowan's are loaded with berries, but no blackbirds, thrushes are around to eat them. I need to check the oaks just up the road, there were loads last year.
