Alas poor Blackie
Got home this lunchtime to see the sparrowhawk had paid a visit in my absence. I think I mentioned that I've had up to eight blackbirds in the garden or hedge at once this winter, and I know it's soft but I was hoping it wasn't the 'The Boss' that watches out for me offering food that had become lunch for the sprawk.
I've seen 'The Boss' since.
There's a flock of feral fancy pigeons that have taken to devouring any seed I put on the grass and bullying away the robins and blackbirds. Their a right pain. As an experiment I put some seeds in a feeder to see what would happen. Well, one of the robins has learned to use the feeder. A bit awkwardly, but at least it's getting some extra grub. And the bloody pigeons can't get at it!

Stop the presses!!
Lumby's spent some money on a bird feeder
I'd have thought you would have either pinched one from the Nature reserve or made one out of a plastic milk bottle.

The feeders are cheaper than bottles of pop, Colin. I don't pay RSPB prices.

Saw an ad on telly the other day for some super-duper brand of bird table seed. Couldn't believe what I was seeing.
