I've heard plenty of chiffchaffs. A bit early yet for swallows, and no sand martins (which arrive earlier) locally.

Last Tuesday I saw a Turtle Dove, the first Ive seen in this country for thirty years or more.
When I lived in Iberia the locals would shoot them wholesale, perhaps the reason why so many of ours never returned?

Good to see the chicks of my Blackbird have survived the hard frosts of the past two nights.

I’ve never seen a turtle dove Mike, maybe don’t venture up this far?
Heard plenty of chiff chaffs yesterday, no sand martins yet but I disturbed a mallard sitting on a nest under some tree roots she was sitting on 3 eggs hopefully the crows & magpies don’t find her

A Ring Ouzel was photographed along the Hants Avon valley, good pic here if anyone's interested. https://www.avondiary.net/

I saw a swallow last Friday and a pair of Turtle Doves yesterday, but missed out in the White Tailed, again.

A rat started showing interest in the Blackbird' chicks, but with the help of Mr Walther its now feeding a rambling rose.

Chiffchaffs sing to me every morning in the woods behind my house Dave, apparently many are now staying in the UK throughout the winter months due to climate change.
Not for long though in this wood though, it is in the process of being clear-felled, gutted   .

Blackcaps and whitethroats also over-wintering.

Shame about the trees. Still, half of Wales will be forest in a short while to compensate...

None of the t*ts are showing any interest in the nest boxes around here yet, but went along the canal throwing spinners about for a couple of hours this morning, disturbed a moorhen with a full nest of eggs at the nearside bank. I've seen the first yellowhammers of the year too.

I heard willow warblers singing on Wednesday April 13th and they're the first I've heard locally (South Cheshire) for many years.

Not a migrant, I was fishing an urban river yesterday and saw a Red Kite, I see plenty on other rivers about 40 miles away, but it was a first for along here.

Very pleasing.

I thought it only moved between coast and uplands but apparently it also travels further south for the winter.
