Resident Egret

Post by nigel savage »

Not surprisingly a number of fish eating birds are in the harbour at Rutland with all the Bait fish that are in there, Cormorants, surprise, surprise! along with Gulls, Dabchicks, Heron, the Kingfisher every now and then.
There is also an Egret that has made the harbour it's home, and it likes to strut around the boat pontoon a lot, puffing it's chest feathers out, warding off the Guls that get to close.
Managed to get some images of it fairly close by zooming in, didn't realise that they have clawed feet.

We should eradicate the whole lot.
They are not native, they compete with other species and nobody knows what they are eating nor damage they are doing to our wildlife.

Nice pics tho.

Egret was about today, as Lumby mentions they don't tolerate humans getting close for a decent photo. The Heron was not impressed either, kept chasing the Egret away.

Nice birds though.

I was fishing upstream and was watching the antics from afar. But I've tried getting closer before to no avail, Herons are ok. Egrets never.

Nice pics. :joker:
