When all you have is a bloody phone camera....

Post by davelumb »

Walking home from the Post Office this morning I saw a white bird land on a garden wall. From afar I thought it would be a pigeon. As I got closer it flew off the wall and hopped along the garden path. Pigeon's don't hop so I tried to sneak up on it for a closer look. It was a leucistic blackbird! Almost completely white. No camera on me only the fecking phone. So the picture is of a white blob. It hardly counts as a record shot!

I hope Chris's phone has a better camera than mine.

Leucistic is different from albino. It's a partial lack of pigment and can be random, in patches or even spots.without the pink eyes. Albinism is usually hereditary and would affect the whole body, leading to the pink eyes. I learned this from a birdwatching page on FB.

That is brilliant, well done Dave.
Quality is an irrelevance, you saw it and took a snap which proves what you saw, which is far and away good enough for most of us.

" Pigeon's don't hop so I tried to sneak up on it for a closer look."

In an anthropomorphic world that is a pigeon who would be a blue badge holder. They do say "No photo and it didn't happen." Providing a dodgy photo and a possible narrative just muddies the water.
