Border terriers
Will be after a new puppy in a couple of months or so, to replace my jack Russell who passed away recently.
House feels really empty without a dog about.
Loved my jack Russell to bits, but he was a bit of a handful at times, and was a bit of a bully when he came across other dogs, and cats,
I know several members of the forum have borders, I'm trying to find out if they make good fishing buddies, and what they are like with other dogs etc, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Border terriers
They are great fishing dogs Steve, very steady and calm, they need to meet other dogs when young so they can be socialised properly as they can get a bit aggressive when they mature.
I have my own as you may know know and I sold 2 pups to fishing friends and they are over the moon with them. Rob Shallcroft has one and she is even steady as a rock on his boat.
My daughter has one of the pups I bred and she is also rock steady, and she has just mated her this week so hopefully she will have some pups for sale soon.
They can be very passive dogs and won't stand any rough treatment from you,a firm tone of your voice usually is enough for a border.
If you need any more advice just ask mate.

Thanks Pete.
Spent a day on Robs boat. She is a lovely dog. That's what got me thinking about a border terrier one day.

A mate of mine has had terriers all his life. He tells me Borders and Lakelands were the best to hunt because they tend to remain obideient and are quiet. Sounds like traits you'd want in a fishing dog to me.

Re: Border terriers
You wont regret it steve, they are the best! On my second now after loosing my first a year ago yesterday, my new one fred is just like the old one, very sociable and friendly, think this is cos they are always with me day in day out from a young age and were both introduced to other peoples dogs very early on. Did puppy classes with them too, i know its not everyones cup of tea but its very good socialisation.
Fred comes to work with me every day too, lucky that i can take him i know, my customers now go to the back of the truck to get hime out and have a play!!
Good luck you wont regret it........although there may be the odd occasion when they feck off after a rabbit....dont think you will change that!

Re: Border terriers
Had ours 4 yrs now and use to be good with other dogs until she got cornered by 2 Labradors
Now she gets in first.
But follows me everywhere and like they say....... Steady as a rock.
And they can sulk for England.
Border Terrorist...........
Enjoy your escapades ahead Steve

Re: Border terriers
She's turning out to be a cracking dog, very obedient. (Most of the time).
She's out with me on my short lure sessions, and loving it.
Been taking her to puppy classes, which seem a great help in getting her socialising with other dogs etc.
Her appearance has completey changed since we've had her. Love her to bits.

here is my lad Fred, he has just turned 1, he is great company, rides on quad with me at work, was obedient but killed his first rabbit last week! He is great with other dogs though, and like Tilly was good with our cat. i am sure a lot of that is down to he socialising he had as a pup, keep going with the puppy classes
Thanks for the update

Fred's predecessor, Bramble once stole a corned beef sandwich from Mark Barretts lunch box.
