Re: Random dog pics ( cus we can )
Had to put Ruby down last Tuesday as her liver had packed in, gutted but it was the right thing to do.She was a cracking fishing dog and had been a constant attachment to my side for the last 12 years.

Feel for you Pete, I’ve said on here many times how hard it was putting mine down a couple of years ago, but like you said when the time has come you have to do the right thing

Re: Random dog pics ( cus we can )
Very sad news Pete. It wasnt difficult to see that you loved her. I sorted a few photos of my lurcher Jed out over the furlough period and I don't mind admitting that it made me blub. He was an amazing little rabbiting dog and had a few hares to boot.
The picture quality is poor as they're photos of photos, but I think you can see how handsome he was. He looked like a vampire with his ears up and the fangs on his chest.

1986 what a year. I was 23. My mum died in August. My dad died Xmas Eve and in the new year my grandad, the last of my grandparents, died in March.
Two weeks later my lurcher died of unknown causes.
I think that made losing my dog an even tougher thing to deal with.

They become part of the family Chris, I have lost dogs when I worked them but Ruby was different and I don't think I will get another dog now tbh, the Mrs is adamant she won't go through that again.
Your lurched was a stunner mate, the prick ears used to show up a lot in Alsation crosses, though They were quite rare, what was the cross Chris?, colliexgrey x whippet?.

He could take hares too though he wasnt as fast as my mate's Deerhound cross. They become part of the family Chris, I have lost dogs when I worked them but Ruby was different and I don't think I will get another dog now tbh, the Mrs is adamant she won't go through that again.

Surprisingly gentle creatures though, providing you're not a hare. They often make great companions for the elderly.
I remember my mate's dad used to race a few dogs at a local flapping track. He brought a great big tan dog out with him for a walk on our local heath and had it off the lead when a late work rider appeared in the distance fast cantering a two year old. The dog spotted it and took off like a rocket after it. Luckily they cant' outstride a thourougbred horse and the dog gave voice, a sure sign they cant catch what they're chasing, otherwise he could have been looking at damages into 6 figures.

Having lost my little Alfie in Feb, we now just have Fizz (both Shih Tzu's) who's never been on her own her whole life. She's 11 now and we're going to wait until this Covid s**t is over and get another one. Missus is thinking a rescue dog, I don't honestly know tbf.

I’ve just come back from a funeral & looked at our 15 year old Springer & thought is the last time I’m going to have to get her clipped!
Only a Dog owner would understand eh!

15 for a springer is a bloody good age.
It’s always heartbreaking when they go. But as long as they’ve been loved and had a good life you know you’ve given them (and they’ve given you ) the best life they could have
Just remember the good times
