Trapping mink and big mink.

Post by SmellySmelt »

What the biggest mink you have seen. My biggest I caught last winter, it was 4lb7oz. Still in the freezer to be mounted. I also caught a blue mink the same year. There’s a pic of the big mink beside a good size female, caught the same day.

Not seeing the mink we use to have locally, but certainly more otters, though saying that seen a few mink remains on the M5 down Devon where the culm runs parallel to the motorway, obviously no traffic sense ...😂

Biggest Ive seen was actually a skin, it was about the same size as yours.
It was an oatmeal colour and part of a collection of the range of colours found in mink, shown during my trapping course.

Didnt know mink had been released in Ireland, I hope you can get ontop of them before they decimate your wildlife.

Too late, they are wide spread across the country, escapees and fur farm antis releasing them since the 70s. There are 4 fur farms left in Ireland still.

I was forced to use cages but there is nothing like a Fenn to do a proper job.

Keep up the good work.

I mainly use conibear style 116s and mark 6 fenns. You don’t have to check them every day with these.

Bloke who runs the Duck shoot on a pool I fish was trying to catch a Mink with the cage style traps but didn't get any when I asked him. They also had a pack of hounds down there but they all walked straight past the bush I had seen the Mink jump into earlier that day!

I wonder if anyone has tried to catch Otters in traps like these :laughs:
