Tackle Room Work Bench

Well the old propped up work table gave way after 4 years. So it was time to find something more substantial.
So it was my b'day a couple of weeks ago and on the list was some bench supports and MDF board.
So after ordering the bench supports from Machine Mart

I then sourced the shelf and worktop. Looking online and various forum's, I went and got cut some 18mm (3/4") MDF to suit my needs.
So I now have my two sheets cut by Ipswich Plastics at

1.7m x 0.6m worktop
1.5m x 0.5m shelf
Its all bolted together using M6 X40mm fixing, which have been sunk (recessed) into the worktop and shelf to ensure that its both secure but flush.
So what next, well its in the tackle room and all loaded up. There is loads of room both under it for trays, on the shelf for back and boxes etc, leaving the top clear to utilise for trace, float and rig making.
I just order an advise 1m/39" adhesive ruler that will be stuck to the surface and plan to find a small vice too.

These are great for organising spare terminal tackle, leads, feeders, etc.

any old chest of drawers we replace get put in the hall cupboard for storing my tatt

Have you got any rails under that top?
Mdf will sag a little if unsupported.

No I have Duncan, but a good idea.
Will also be fitted a board at the back to stop thing dropping off.

No I have Duncan, but a good idea.
Will also be fitted a board at the back to stop thing dropping off.
If its not going to have much static load on it, a length of 2x2, front, back and middle should be fine, try to secure the ends to the rails as well.
Also worth sealing both sides with MDF sealer or paint to stop moisture absorbance and harden the surface a bit.

PVA glue works cool for a mdf sealer , use it lots for this task when building speaker cabinets.

Check out unistrut
We use it at work,very strong and comes in stainless steel.
Also a godd table cover is rubber matting, let me know what size as we have some at work
