Bloody hell, you had your work cut out there, was there much of the original car left at the end? Cracking job though!!

Re: Lockdown Restoration Project
Lovely Job Andy, I had an early series 2 some years ago and like a total fool I sold it on instead of just parking it up in a shed for a while.

Re: Lockdown Restoration Project
The car is still 90% original. The front wings were replaced with better second hand ones, everything else was restored. The Chassis and bulkhead were in good condition and were sandblasted and galvanised.
The engine was a mess but saveable. All in all its pretty good for a 1953 car.
Its amazing what you can do with plenty of time and a bit of determination !
it was good to get my boys involved as well.
I also have a Series 2a, 1970, that I restored a couple of years back, its a bit easier to drive than the Series 1.

Lovely. Was it that model that had a option of a pto ? I drive past a Landy that has a pto and have always wondered when they were fitted and why they stopped fitting them

Re: Lockdown Restoration Project
All 80" Land Rovers up to 1954 had the rear take off unit on the back of the gearbox (small lever with the black knob and the drive plate in the pic, accessed through a plate under the middle seat) but the extra rear prop and take off unit on the back end were an expensive option so not many were fitted.
Mine lacks the rear mounted unit at the mo, but I might fit one at a later date, funds allowing !

Awesome job.
I had to look twice at least.
Needs a bit of mud on it now

I like the fact the 2 nearest tools to hand are hammers , like to expand on that Andy ?
Nice project ... An iconic vehicle without a doubt.

Re: Lockdown Restoration Project
Hammers in various sizes were used to good effect throughout the restoration. These are not precision made machines !!

Isn't that the beauty... Remember having to stamp the floor on the rangerover to get the fuel pump pumping, quirks !

Re: Lockdown Restoration Project
Credit to you. I’ve owned a 1958 series two in past before they became gold dust and silly money. Looks good next to her stable mate.
This will come in handy even if I never use it.
