New tackle room

Post by zodiac »

Rather proud of this self build!
Looking for inspiration, I have a blank canvass for the new tackle room
4m by 4m Square, 2.4 m high.
Just a chest freezer in at the moment, I'm starting shelves etc at the weekend. If you were starting from scratch, how would you store rods? I'd like room for around 12 fully set up and ready to go easily. Wall racks? Racks from the ceiling? Everything has been stored in a walk in cupboard till now so I've no set idea of how I'm going to store things now.

That looks excellent G.

Who did you get to do the floor :clown: :laughs:
I’ve just added six ladder supports so my three rod bags are stored off the ground.
Here’s one bag I tested after taking off the ladder.
Bag hooks are obviously closer together and stable.

Don’t forget room for a table and a fridge for the beers.

The van wouldn't start this morning so it was a bad news call to a couple of customers but at least I got the floor down and skirting on in the tackle room!

So trying out ideas for rod storage. I'm happy with the base. It's just 70mm plastic down pipe cut in to sections. The frame holds it in place fairly snug but there's still a bit of movement side to side so the flexibility to accommodate big reels etc.
I'm not happy with the flimsy foam and plastic keepers for the wall. I'm going to look in to something else, whether I buy it or make it I'm not quite sure. Any suggestions?

How about slots like this. The elastic running across keeps the rod still once inserted into slots.

Or curved like this black line showing elastic (the other side of rod obviously)

I think they're more designed for running horizontally along the wall. I need quite a bit of space between them as I have a lot of big bulky reels. I'll probably try to make something.

I made a similar set up under the stairs. I can't quite make out if you've done it from the pics but I put an angled piece of 4" x 1" at the bottom of the rack to "force" the top of the rods against the wall.

you could do away with those plastic pipe sections for the but end of the rods and use water pipe inserts which would be available in the size you want.
Run a length of timber off the ground at a height that suits, (probably 5") holes can be drilled and inserts spaced to accommodate your rods without any fouling of reel handles etc.

Just thinking if you ran two separate lengths of timber again parallel to the floor one above the other and had inserts in both that correspond top and bottom the rods would stand up in those without any other support needed.
You would need some extra ceiling clearance above the rods for this method to be able to lower them in.

I've settled on drilling a row of 10mm holes in the timber on the wall then inserting 10mm dowel section, somewhere about 100mm in length. I'll try this today and see if there's anything else needed to retain them.

Well my wife has just dropped the bombshell that she wants to clear a couple of the cupboards in the house and keep stuff in 'the new outhouse '
I said 'its not the f*****g outhouse, it's my fishing room. Besides, there's already too much to go in it, there's no room' She said we'll you'll have to sell some stuff.

So, I have for sale-
A shark upright hoover
An ironing board
2 mirrors which have previously been on the wall
Some boxes of old photos
A box full of miscellaneous half tins of paint
A big tesco bag-for-life full of other bags-for-life
Various women's shoes and boots- size 5

More to follow once I empty the other cupboard.

I've done as much as I can until I get the rod storage sorted and get them all out the way. I'm considering scrapping what I've started and going for wall mounted racks. I shall ponder for a couple of days till I get the chance to get more work done in here. Real work is getting in the way unfortunately.

I pinched Rob Shallcrofts idea off his article on the pikepool (Garage mindset), for rod storage, worth a look.

Nothing exciting but you can space the rods as you want

Yes that would work. Not fancy but simple and functional.
There are 3 girls in the house, I could use some of the hair bands I find scattered over the house.

I'm going to try these. If the simple solution works then no need to look any further!

Well these wee plastic clips work a treat. Thicker rods are better with two, slimmer rods are fine with one.
