Gin
As you’ll know Gin has become very popular in the last year or so .
I myself have only been drinking it for the past two years
And in that time have amassed quite a few bottles .
My question is
What Gin do you prefer
What tonic you use ( if any )
And do you add anything ( to improve it )
If flavoured which one
Regards
Tom

Re: Gin
Any good gin, tonic and a slice of either lemon/lime or both, a couple of cubes of ice and enjoy.
My daughter and her bf have been buying all this new flavoured crap and just tonight I did them both a G&T, they're both converted back to basics.

Re: Gin
Tonic has to be Fentimans, the type depends on the flavour of Gin but I usually go on the bartenders recommendation, I only really drink in places that know me well and appreciate I won’t pay if it tastes like s**t
Plain G&T is usually Hendricks
For cocktails I don’t think it makes much difference on the brand but I tend to buy Tanqueray export strength as it doesn’t seem to give me a bad head

Re: Gin
Adnams copperhouse with fevertree indian, lime and lemon, pour gin over fruit, then tonic.
Or
Bulldog with Schweppes standard and just ice.
Tried dozens of others and these stand out as the best.

Re: Gin
Fevertree tonic is very good too, I can’t do Schweppes though
I think it’s the new tonics that have helped reinvigorate Gin
Wish I had a crystal ball because the whole G&T scene has blown up over the last 2-5 years and made some people very rich indeed

Re: Gin
There are some very nice flavoured Gins out there at the moment.
But keep away from the cheap brands , ( you get what you pay for )
Gordon’s pink Gin is the cheapest bottle I’ve got ,and is a very refreshing drink ,very moorish
and Only about 16/18 pounds a bottle.
Serve with ice ,lemonade and the odd strawberry or raspberries
Thoroughly recommend it
Regards

Re: Gin
Bombay Sapphire with Schweppes original
1" and 2" nothing else, served at room temp.
What better gin than for an angler, made from the waters of the River Test.
If youve the taste for sour try - 1" Gin, 1" Campari, 2" Vermouth over a handful of ice with a hunk of crushed orange

Botanicals is a cracking gin, mixed with fever tree and a shaving of cucumber....
Or a nice little number I found a few months ago. A Dutch gin, 2vc very easy to drink, again mixed with any of the fever tree range, really nice with pink lady apple slice
Hendricks is always a good go to. Just plain indian tonic, a saving of cucumber and a drop or 2 (no more) of bitters....perfect pink gin!!!
I got to try a rather nice savile orange gin at a party over christmas, but cant real the distiller....it was a really rather good.
All served over crushed ice..

Was the Seville orange one you tasted the Tanqueray one ?
Totally agree with the Hendricks , never tried the bitters with it ( will do now , thanks )
I’ve got a french Gin called Zing 72 Botanical , have you had it before ?
I haven’t got around to opening it as I’ve got quite a few in front of it .
Have you got a favourite

Re: Gin
Not heard of your French gin, but will look for it now.
It could well have been the Tanquery savile gin
I also had a Japanese gin (though canny remember the name) a few months ago, which agsin wasn’t bad.
The Dutch 2vc is smooth enough to be drunk neat if you wished.
As for a favourite, thats tricky Love small batch is good. Strong ginger notes, then mixed with fever tree ginger is a really good tipple.
But the one I always seem to come back to is Bottanicles or Hendricks

We could/should have an away day visiting the Bombay Sapphire distillary followed by lunch at the Mayfly and an afternoon trotting for Grayling in the hallowed waters.

Re: Gin
New Years Eve I took some bottles of my Sloe Gin & Damson Gin to a mates party. I’d seen an ad for a cocktail - Gin, cranberry juice & Prosecco.
It went down a treat & everyone was legless. Some cracking hangovers the next day, not helped by the fact that the bloke providing the homemade pizzas with his fancy new pizza oven - couldn’t get it to work properly so we just drank on empty stomachs.

257 miles for me and 4h 50 minutes
A distillery in the opposite direction might be a better option for some of us!
