Well, that’s made my day! I went to bed last night as normal, butch, hairy, 100% male (beats chest and roars, MAN!) only to wake up and discover that I’m an effeminate coffee loving Sherman!

I don’t think I’m going to be able to top that for a while! :boing:

The arrival of coffee into Britain predates tea by a century, coffee is still partaken in its natural form, simply roasted ground and steeped in hot water.
The original Chinese tea arrived a century after coffee and it was green, not oven dried stems and stalks ground to micro powder.

It therefore follows that coffeee is the superior beverage by age and originality, and where it is consumed.

stalks and stems? I thought it was leaves from the top of the bush, much better than scooping coffee beans from civet cat s**t ANYDAY (another product the filthy rich think tastes great---like snipe guts on toast, must have been a bit hard up the chap who first tried it)

Its more probable that when tea arrived it was realised to be superior and the coffee was ditched. there wasn't a Boston coffee party was there? The Empire wasn't built on coffee was it?

and it arrived a 100 years before?

You may like to think its leaves of tea but there isn't enough tea grown to supply the global market.
Tea leaves are picked with stems attached, stems are removed when the leaves are shredded for leaf tea and the stems go into tea bags
This explains why so much low level advertising goes into suducing tea drinkers into using bags.

Dont believe me, well buy leaf tea and see what it costs you.
Then ask why are you paying more for leaf tea when your 'tea' in the bags has all the extra production processes of grinding and bagging!

The Empire was built by boats made from English Oak, tea doesn't float.

And your historical link is incorrect.

Mike, you can't just state 'your historical link is incorrect' and dismiss it without offering evidence of your own.
Well, you can, but it won't be taken seriously..

Thermos flask coffee is the Devil's work - but Thermos flask tea is the Devil's work on a really bad day . . . .

Talking of the 'great divide', my missus brought home fish and chip the other day, and asked me if I wanted tea or coffee with them.

Coffee with fish & chips?!!!! That's against the laws of nature!

Put the leaves in the mug, add hot water, milk and sugar. An expert tea drinker can drain the dregs and leave the leaves in the bottom.

Bonus, the tea gets stronger as you drink it

Ditto for me.

Despite being a southerner I'm a tea drinker. Probably to do with being brought up on a council estate.

Here you go Kev,
I didn't bother referencing it as I thought you knew and trying to bluff us coffee drinkers.

England first became acquainted with coffee in 1637 when a Turk introduced the drink to Oxford. It quickly became popular among students and teachers who established the "Oxford Coffee Club". The first coffeehouse in Oxford opened in 1650 and was called the "Angel".
https://www.turkishcoffeeworld.com/Hist ... e-s/60.htm

It was the Portuguese and Dutch traders who first imported tea to Europe, with regular shipments by 1610. England was a latecomer to the tea trade, as the East India Company did not capitalise on tea's popularity until the mid-18th century.

BTW I do drink tea but only out of curtesy to my hosts, when Inlet it go cold and down it in one!

Black tea and black coffee for me.

Simplifies my outdoor activities not having to worry about keeping milk fresh, and means my flasks taste good all they way to the last cup.
