Re: Rice cooker
About 20 quid should do it I think. You don't need bell's and whistles. I had one once, can't recall the make or model though.

No need to complicate things. Why not just use a pot?

Re: Rice cooker
I use one of those plastic steamer pots for the micro and made in China.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenCraft-M ... OLE&sr=8-4
No problems with the micro, using them for 8years, but Im on #3 because the flimsy handles break.
Before the plastic pot I used an electic model, the rice was just good as the micro design but it took up a lot more space. It also had very soft aluminium rice holders that were forever getting dented, but it was so soft I could push the dents put with my fingers.
One big advantage of an electric steamer was you can cook veg etc at the same time as the rice.
Most Chinese supermarkets sell electric steamers, if you want to see before you buy.

Re: Rice cooker
I eat rice or noodles 4-5 times a week.
Rice is more economical because it can be purchased in bulk and stored dried for years as ageing increases the flavour. Any leftovers can be frozen and reheated, or if not become bird feed or ground bait, barbel especially love it.
Even with Arborio rice in a Rissotto or Paella there is zero waste if leftovers are frozen for later use.
Noodles come is one person bundles so no waste as again, same as rice for leftovers, chopped its a great bait for certain species.
The only potatoes I use are MaCains ovens with a steak or small salads with their skins on for Bahjis, Curries or Tagines.
Dispite the abive Im still going to try the roast tatty recipe recently posted.

Re: Rice cooker
Found this recipe, and the rice has a wonderful aroma.
Always gave rice too much attention when cooking
Tried this and surprised myself
Pilau rice.
300g basmati rice
Add teaspoon black cumin.
3 cloves
2 cardamom pods
Bay leaf
Star anise
Piece of cinnamon stick
2 black cardamom pods
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a saucepan.
Add all ingredients and fry for 2 mins.
Add 500ml cold water & pinch of salt.
Bring to boil, cover and cook on low heat
for 10mins WITHOUT lifting the lid.
Take off the heat and rest for 5mins.
Remove lid toss grains with fork and serve.
Perfect rice every time.
