Mulligatawny soup
I've never tried it, but are there any canned versions worth trying?
I got a food flask for Christmas and I'm looking for alternatives to canned 'big breakfast' beans
concoctions (nice enough though they are).

The only one I've had is Heinz. Could have sworn Baxter's did it too, but Google says not.

Heinz is ok.
If you can't find any put some curry powder in a tin of Oxtail

Re: Mulligatawny soup
Look for my Thai recipe for soup.
Simple to make, just coconut milk, chick peas, onions and garlic, and Thai red curry paste. Either blend into thick soup or leave as is if you like it lumpy.
It will fill a food flask x 2, just freeze the second portion.
Not Mulli but equally as good.

Two minutes on full power - stir - two more minutes on full power (irrespective of what it says on the tin, as nobody reads them!).

The Tesco chunky soups are also very good, more like a stew than a soup.

Gave the Heinz Mulligatawny a try while fishing today.
Not bad at all, as soups go, and pretty tasty - wouldn't want it every time, but added to the list.

Sacrilege to some curry heads I know, but I like it heated slowly with a handful of sultanas in.

If you want the easiest soup to make at home John:
Take a handful of frozen peas and add them to a cup of chicken stock with a red chilli and a handful of fresh coriander. Then blitz in a processor. If you like coriander and chillies you'll love it!

Fannying around in my pinny the night before is not my thing.
(I'm digging the handful of sultanas suggestion though. ).

Even so, if you want an easier than easy soup: My old standby when using a food thermos is to fill the flask about three quarters full of any soup I like then toss in a handful of chopped bean sprouts. These will be perfectly cooked by the time you get to the water.
