Parmos

Post by Bob Watson »

Or full name, parmesan!!!

How far have they spread?

Chicken fillet covered in breadcrumbs, topped with béchamel sauce and cheese.

Invented in Teesside in the 80's and the reason for many overweight smoggies.

I used to frequent the restaurant (El Grecos) where Andrew (head chef) invented the dish. Another dish was the "Zacharof" which was chicken fillet in bread crumbs in a red sauce with mushrooms. You could get half a parmo and half a zacharof which was a combo.

Originally made from pork fillets but the influx of our Asian friends and their take aways it gradually turned Teessides finest from pork to chicken.

I reckon I could open a take away down south and make a killing!

Yes Bri, Ramsgate. A perfect excuse for another few drinks after the nightclubs kicked out.

Not parmesan cheese Andy, but a parmo, totally different and its a chicken based dish wrapped in breadcrumbs and much much better than deep fried mars bars

Parmo's definitely haven't reached Hull yet, but i've fond memories of being at uni in Stockton and getting tanked up on cheap student union bar lager before heading into town and finishing the night with a chicken parmo. good times
