Top 5 chocolate bars

Post by Ben »

If we’re talking boxes then it’s Hotel Chocolat all day long, they’re a level above.

If we’re discussing chocolate bars then my top 5 is…

1) Picnic
2) Topic
3) Starbar
4) Yorkie Raisin & Biscuit
5) Close between Twix & Double Decker but Twix wins

Topics are no more! My wife loves topics but it seems they're not made any more. I don't like nuts with chocolate. Nuts are savoury for me.

Galaxy caramel
Not a bar but munchies
Mars
Creme egg

Terrys Chocolate Orange was always present in my Christmas Present sack, used to have a lovely snap to it, sadly it’s like sludge now and completely inedible, think it’s due to a lack of Cocoa since Mondelez took them over.

I always had one at Christmas, good memories. Now they have no taste, that's possibly why they are often on special from a £1.00 as no one eats the damn things anymore.

Wispa caramel are decent, plain Wispa are not for me, again used to have that snap but are now just a sludge.

I don’t find Lindor chocolate that good either, I’d take a Green & Blacks offering over them and Lindt.

I know they don't make them anymore, Texan bars used to be the thing.

Doubt my teeth would survive eating one now.

Modelez International, a US company owns most of the chocolate brands sold in the UK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondelez_International
Since their takeover of Cadbury's I and many others have noticed the creeping alterations to the taste, more sickly, smoother and the lack of a genuine cocoa flavour.

I buy my chocolate from a specialist shop that imports from Belgium. I prefer to eat one chocolate a day if or when, rather than some manipulated mass produced offering made in lord knows where.

Eating a Texan bar was like playing with Stretch Armstrong, but using your teeth.

Mint Aero
Bournville
Raspberry Ruffle
Fry’s Chocolate Cream (peppermint)
Turkish Delight

In a box -Black Magic

No chocolate tastes as appealing to me as it once did though. I had assumed it was just a change of palate as I got older, but reading the above, perhaps that’s why.

My sister buys me a TCO assorted flavours box every Christmas. I used to love it as a kid but can’t stand a chocolate and orange combination of any kind now. It either goes straight into the bin or I give it to someone at work.

My tastes have really altered in the last ten years or so. There was a time when I could happily scoff a Marathon Snickers or a Mars Bar in four bites, but just don't fancy them at all now.

Currently for me its

Picnic
Kit Kat (white ones if they're around).
Tunnock's caramel wafer
Crunchie
Does a packet of Maltesers count?
