Pike Pool 5 (Jason Skilton)

Post by ChristopherH »

Another article added to the Pike Pool.

A great little tale this time from forum regular Jason Skilton about his first zander trip with predator specialist Mark Phillips. Read it here:

Nice story Jason.

Many years ago my mate Marc and myself were fishing the little Ouse for Pike.

When we got chatting to another angler, and Zander came up in the conversation.

Neither of us had caught one, and as the Pike had gone off the feed the other angler

pointed us in the direction of Hilgay bridge.

He said we would be sure to catch one there.

So of we went to find what I believe from memory was the relief channel.

We put out a couple of rods each and proceded to catch 10 Zander (5 each)

That is the extent of my Zander fishing and I have no desire to catch another one.Image

Did you not enjoy the experience then Phil?

Although I seem to find increasingly less time to fish for Zeds with each season I can think of few more rewarding sights than the sparkling greens and golds of a nice zander caught in the beam of a head-torch in the folds of your landing net. A truly striking fish!

Chris I enjoyed it on the day.

And the fact that I actually got to see and handle one for the first time.

But to be honest as a target fish they don't float my boat.

Pretty much on Par with your writing Mark....

I see the photo of your Irish 24 pounder appeared in P&P again...

It's about time you as an angling (said loosely ) writer should start catching something.Image

Well without wishing to offend anyone most of what has appeared on the PP so far quite rightly wouldnt have got near a published magazine in a million years or shouldnt have. Chris's paste article and Lumby;s piece being the exceptions.

Without wishing to offend because I believe its your first go Jason your piece whilst ok on a blog or diary is lacking a lot if detail which the Ed should be asking you for. as an example, you mention that you switched to roach, but neglected to say if it was live or dead, believe it or not people are bothered and do want to know.

Also there are still numerous spelling mistakes or bad english present.

Wrap up Mark, these are nice storys, written by anglers for anglers, which is what the people want (believe it or not).

So don't start up with your little digs at this new project, I think Chris and his writters are doing a fine job.

Thanks for the comments Mark. I'm really pleased to know we can count you as a reader too, the audience number seems quite impressive already. I'm sure we'll all take your points onboard and strive to do better in future. Image
