Possibly a redstart? Used to see them on my old school field years ago along with fieldfares and other birds that don't seem to be about much nowadays...

That's what it is, Steve. Had them in my garden too this winter, eating holly berries. Fieldfares are often with them.

Thanks, because of the snow, I've scattered loads of bird seed in front garden, must have attracted it.

Soak some raisins & cut some apples in half - they love them.

Redwing. Not a redstart - they are much different in plumage. Redwing migrate in flocks, and pass through around the same time as Fieldfares. Have loads of them over here.

Here's our other Scandinavian visitor the Fieldfare.
Only ever seen Fieldfares in large flocks in the paddocks around here.
But since the snow they have appeared helping themselves to the mealworms we put out.
Thought he wagtails were aggressive until they arrived feathers everywhere.
The only bird they don't attack is the starlings, hope MJ don't get them or he wouldn't get the

Along with the Redwings and Fieldfares, you might get the odd Waxwing too.

It's a Redwing. Very pretty little member of the thrush family. They are everywhere at the moment along with the Fieldfares. I'm surprised given the recent weather that more people are not reporting Waxwings too.

I saw a small flock (of what I now realise were fieldfares) only yesterday. Stopped the car to look at them, as they were not a bird I've seen locally in Derbyshire. Thanks for the ID
