PRESTIGE CARP PORTER BIG BOY MKII BARROW

Post by David.F.Scobie »

If you are going to do longer bivvy sessions you'll need a barrow to move gear from car park to swim I did have some other brands of barrow over the years I had the Daiwa Infinity one I had one from Sabre and a Fox one (I borrowed these for a fortnight fishing trip in France off a mate). The thing I found with single wheel barrows was on the move they were ok but during the loading up and unloading periods they loved to tip over sending gear everywhere cue much swearing, the single wheel being a bit thin it tended to plough into the soft ground meaning I'd get bogged in fast cue more swearing. I had enough of the shenanigans with my Daiwa one so made the decision to invest in one of these.

Prestige Carp Porters are highly thought of within the carp world sure they are heavy but they are engineered to last indeed they are an example of British engineering so I had a look, instantly I seen the Tri Porter Big Boy MKII I love the chunky tyres the fact that it's three wheeled, you don’t lift this puppy you just have to push and away you go, indeed I've tested it on swamp bog mud and it just keeps going through it. I've been able to load it up with all the kit needed for a 5 night bivvy session and push it the distance from where the van was parked to the swim I was fishing. You can get a load of different add ons for holding water bottles food more clothing basically you can move a ton of stuff and not break your back doing it.

The spares package it comes with is also impressive, they even give you replacement bearings in the spares kit I added the barrow bag that goes in the bottom of the barrow this holds my frozen bait and water for the session you can also fit clothing in this, there's a food kit for the front of the barrow that I don’t have but it looks the dogs dangly bits in fact so much so that I avoid eBay shopping incase drunk Scobes says “hell yea we need this balls to the wedding fund son we need this for the fishing” this would be a error.

I've some Go Pro clamp things that fit this barrow perfectly for those future videos I'm going to do (YouTube superstardom here we come eh) the only negative I have about this product is the cover I got sent with the barrow doesn't fit the barrow if I'm pushing it with the rod holdall on the top of it for some reason it just doesn't fit this is a known issue I've seen a few other anglers saying the same thing. Weight wise the barrow is a chunky monkey it's heavy when it's not set up I've it dismantled down and packed in the van putting it together is simple even with frozen cold hands all in all I'd happily recommend this.

Porters take some beating.
Had my "fat boy" some years now, done me proud. Mine had pressed roller bearings and after this trip
In pic below one failed.
New set of proper sealed heavy duty bearings from prestige for £8 and it glides a treat.
Like the idea of rear wheels for stability on the longer session  like you say it's when your loading or stop to catch your breath they tend to fall over

I made a ramp for the van clips on the rear floor edge for security. can now leave it loaded on and off.
Your right though can never take enough. The bait boat was in the shoulder bag :laughs:

Well done Scobes on a great review

Good review Scobes, I've been thinking about one of these myself, my syndicate is a mile walk round and the single wheel job I have can be harsh on my back sometimes, especially with gear for a two nighter.

I've also looked at the TFG three wheeler,

My current barrow is this,

I only paid £50 for mine from gooutdoors a few years ago and it's been really good, so I'd expect the juggernaut to be just as well built as the trailblazer??

The prestige does come with more added extras though!

The three wheel TFG barrows I looked at too buddy but I read some pretty damning reviews apparently the back axle bar is a bit thin and easily bent ill be honest I paid the extra pennies for the carp porter barrow because its bomb proof and comes with a load of spare parts also prestige as a company couldn't do enough for me when other companies said no to posting the barrow to NI they matched the ebay price and got it delivered for £8 they also threw in the rain cover thing.

I reckon your right, my mate bought the same as yours and I was quite impressed, I was just browsing alternatives. I'll bite the bullet and pay the little extra!
