First time carp fishing

Post by Alan_dalton »

Had a go for the carp today for the first time with George for a couple hours this morning. Fished a small private lake we found that's not been fished. One happy boy. Two wild carp caught on maggots. Second one had had a lucky escape from an otter.

I'm not being pedantic and your boy would have been chuffed to bits but they're not wildies per se, but fished for in an environment to suit, who cares about their gene pool. Great isn't it, finding an unfished water?

Small by today's standards, one was 14lb the other just under 14. Good sport though for a few hours fishing and my lad was chuffed to bits. Next thing were going try is night fishing which the boys will love. Bit of an adventure for them! His Harry Potter T-shirt got covered in slime so that's his new lucky fishing t shirt now!

That's great fish for first carp, my biggest is only around that size though I've haven't fished for them much. Went fishing with Holly my 7 year old yesterday, she had 2 carp but not as big as that at around 4lb. She lost a few though, she ended up flat on her back when the hook pulled on one fish which made us laugh!

Well, you sort of are being pedantic or you'd not have posted the comment  To be fair to Alan, if you read what he's written, he clearly means 'wild' as in not fished for? I've caught true wildies from a water that at one time was 100% unpolluted with any other strain of carp. The same water in fact that a certain Jack Hilton once fished for wildies. Biggest fish were barely nudging doubles, but they were like little bars of gold and fought like tigers... anyway, enough of the willy waving... super pictures Alan and a great day for the lad. Well done both
