This week's breed is the Masham - a cross between a Teeswater and a Swaledale or Dalesbred.

This Farming Life

Valais Blacknose - sold for 10,000 guineas!

£10,500 for a single animal, even the owner was staggered!

I was told some of the prices for sheep and semen the other week but can't remember them precisely. Good sheep were definitely going for four figures. Even their fleeces are worth £25 - and they can be clipped twice a year. Get a fleece felted to make a rug and you're looking at £150 plus.

In 1996 a friend sold a Suffolk ram (tup) for over £1,000.
It not a Supreme Champion of anything near, but it was a quad, of triplets.
The Farmer on the BBC programme made £22,000 from the sale of just 4 of his Valais Blacknose, the programme is worth watching simply to see his reaction after the hammer went down at 10,000, because he'd said he would take it home if it didnt make its reserve of 4,000 guineas.

I can't get my head round some of the prices tups can sell for. £92k? https://www.fwi.co.uk/livestock/92000-b ... -tup-hawes

Mind you, I saw a sheep dog sell for 14k guineas back in February. To a phone buyer in the USA. :dizzy:
