2oz Plug with a tight wiggle?

Post by Paddy Lynch »

Don't Google that thread title or you'll end up on the wrong side of the internetπŸ˜‰
Lads I know plugs aren't in vogue these days but I've been using some old long forgotten lures these days and the Rapala Original floating is catching for me over most lures on its day. It's got me wanting to use more similar lures but much larger can you recommend plugs with a similar action to a Rapala Original floating but larger, in the 2oz plus weight range?

Nils Masters. They made them in large sizes.
Fladen had some huge crank baits too.

Rebel did a 7" minnow, unsure of the weight but I have a couple that have been good catchers. Also the 7 " whopper stopper hellcat magnum... If you can find any.

Most 7" miinowbaits have a pronounced rolling action. The Heddon King Cobra has the least amount of action of any of these type baits that I've tried. If you'd consider a flat sided minnowbait then the Bradrock Molly Bait in 7" have a subtle action and is a fantastic pike catcher. The Cordell Redfin and Bomber Long A are also good choices.

The Molly bait was discontinued a long time back Mike, must be 12-15 years ago.

Sounds a bit like me then.

Thanks Steve.

Plugs... haven't heard that for a while  Lots of minnow baits out there that'll do what you want. The Bucher 5" shallow raider is one of my favourites. Great casting/twitching lure and handy for shallow trolling.

Fell out of fashion but I used to do well on the Bomber long A and Bomber Magnum.

I pick all of mine up in the US. There was a lot of blanks sold to lure painters so there's a load of colours kicking around. They come up on eBay and the musky forums quite regularly.

Thanks Andrew.
My days of paying the EU import taxes/tarriffs are long gone.
If Donald does us a decent decent deal I will be happy to resume.

Best of luck for this winter.
