No fishing on my local lake - so the landowner's flock has been allowed on to graze.

A mixed flock, by the look of it?

Why don't they graze when there is fishing?

The sheep look like mules and other halfbred ewes with lambs for the butcher.

There is usually a small tribe of goats on there when the fishing is open - perhaps sheep don't get on with goats?

Possibly. Or a biosecurity risk between goat herd and sheep flock. Or a change of grazier.

It's not a herd of goats! It's a tribe or trip! :tongues: (The pedants are revolting!). :coat:

And why is a shepherd called a shepherd and not a shepflock? :clown:

So why is it a goatherd and not a goattripper?
Factoid: A small group of sheep is a 'packet'.

Thanks for that Dave!

I dare not press the 'play' button as I do not want to spend the rest of the day yodelling - (I'm having enough trouble trying to suppress a yodel just thinking about that tune!! :laughs: )

Cue my only yodelling joke:

Two goatherds live on opposite sides of a wild Tyrolean valley.

One day while tending their goats, a terrible storm sweeps down the valley and one of them, finding his neighbour's cottage far closer than his own, knocks on his door and begs for shelter until the following morning.

"Very well", his neighbour agrees "But you'll have to share a room with either my grandmother or my beautiful young daughter". ( )

"Second thoughts, you'd better share with my grandmother - as l don't trust you with my innocent daughter!"

A month later the daughter is (inevitably  ) pregnant!

The hospitable goatherd bellows across the valley to his neighbour "You ungrateful swine! You shagged my daughter!!!".

His neighbour yodels back "An' Di Ol' La - hi - dy!!!".
