Swivels
I went to buy myself some genie style clips for my lure traces this afternoon but in the size I wanted the local shop only had clips fitted to swivels. I bought them anyway as in the past I have removed the swivels with no issues but I was wondering whether the additional swivel would have any impact on lure action. Anybody able to offer their thoughts?

Most lures "swim" without spinning, I personally don't bother.

Re: Swivels
Me too Bob, a swivel does very little to combat line twist. Lures that spin generally twist line swivel or no swivel not to mention they are a potential weak link.
Work on your casting style as most line twist is imparted during casting.
Anyway to the question - any extra weight will have an effect on the lures action however slight. I think a leader looks ugly with too much going on. In the old days a spinning trace had two swivels and then your spoon would come equipped with another one ! even with three swivels line twist was still rife !

Re: Swivels
thinking about it, the swivel is just a convenient way to tie your mainline to leader

Re: Swivels
I think I may drop my swivels on my leaders now !
I started off without them, then I added them so I had the option to chuck little spinners and spoons but firstly, I hardly ever chuck them, and secondly, like mentioned, they make no different to line twist so what’s the point.

Me to.
No need to add hardware and cost when it provides no useful purpose.
Albright knot the reel line to leader, https://www.animatedknots.com/albright-knot
More streamlined than a swivel, stronger than most knots, and faster to tie when you've learnt it.

Cheers chaps. I guess the difference it makes is negligible.

Hey Chris, hope you're well mate!
When fishing a very light (2 - 5g) single jighook and 2-3" shads on the the canal for Zeds, I always connect my quality 5.5kg fluoro leader straight to the braid using a decent knot. I wouldn't advocate this approach if using multiple hooks, when Pike are expected nor when using heavier weighted rigs with bigger hooks, but it works well on the canal.
3rd place mate, getting back to where we should be.
