Looking at dead baiting
Looking to start deadbaiting but where to start? Thinking of the wchywood agitator 12ft and a fox eos 10000 BR reel. Really unsure about line. What sort of breaking strain and line is recommended? Will be fishing mostly on the river Trent. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Alright mate. Not used the agitator but I’m sure it’s been reviewed as a decent enough rod for piking. I’ve never used fox reels. Normally stick with Shimmy’s or diawa for my fresh water stuff. A lot use okuma now too, but your Fox reel is probably fine.
In regards to line, A lot use braid now a days. Something in the .36 dia or above (50lb bs +).
If you prefer mono, I’d say 20-25lb maybe for the Trent.

Hi chells they are ment to quite a good rod. I dont real rate fox reels the guys i know who have them have all had problems with them. Id stick to shimano baitrunner for the best value. Gardner gr60 not the x stuff. Just gr60 line mono15lb is really decent line actually breaks at around 24lb is super strong and abbrasive resistant the Cat fish group did a load test what line actually breaks have a screen shot but dont know how to up load it. I have had a boat go through my line with it on river and it took some snapping . Hope thats some help.

My reels are either top end shimano or Okuma, after being converted to Okuma, all my deadbaiting is done on these, cheap, rugged, workhorses at a fraction of the cost.
Not heard anything remotely good ref Fox reels...

I use esp synchro where braid isn’t allowed . Tough as old boots. The 18lb(.37 ml) actually breaks at around 22-23lb. Landed me cats to nearly 50 so pretty confident it could land any pike that swims and. Would probably straighten most trebles out if snagged
