What size baitrunners?

Post by Seb P. Phillips » Sat Nov 09 2019 14:28

I've just bought a pair 10' 6" Daiwa Lexa deadbait rods, mainly for float work on my local canals and river where there's plenty of snags etc. I'm going to pair these up with Shimano baitrunner DLs but not sure wether to get the 6000 or 10000 size? I'll be loading them up with 52lb Power Pro.

They are the same size bodywise, the spool is bigger on the 10000,if you are fishing small waters I would stick with the 6000

I agree with Baldy, 6000.

I use 6000 on my Wychwood boat rods which are 10 foot.
I use this set up on the canals and rivers local to me

I went to buy the 6000 a while back but the 10000 was £20 cheaper so bought that instead

I don't use fixed spool reels that often, but when I do i use 4000 oc, on my 9 and 10ft boats rods. I found them to be more balanced than the 6000 oc.
I use 50lb pp on them.

I use the 10000 size shimano bait runners on my boat rods. Used to use the 6000 but like that larger spools of the 10000

I haven't got the old 6000 reels anymore but I stand corrected. They were some of the first 6000 reels after those big square originals.
Maybe they just look bigger

Deeper, yes, but they're not larger; else they wouldn't fit the same reel body

Hi, i thought/ knew they weren't bigger, from my experience & what iv'e read.

Bob

ps while fishing i did measure my XTEA 8000's & a blokes XTEA 10,000's spool.
Also put bottom of spools together. 10,000's did seem about 1mm bigger dia, so 1/2 mm on radius.
Was done on bankside.
Mind had no affect on spool compatability, both fitted both reels etc & worked.

I use the ST 6000 FB, but it also takes the 10000 spools as well, maybe the the DL does as well. Then best of all worlds...

If you are considering buying baitrunners don’t even contemplate going lower than a 10’000 size .
Reels of the 6’000 size aren’t worth a toss .

As far as I know, the 6000 and 10000 are the same reels (for the ST range anyway), just the 10000 has a deeper spool. Ive a pair of ST 10000s, I wanted 6000s but they were sold out at the time.

Cheers folks, got a couple of DL 6000rb's second hand off eBay, perfect for what I'm after, also good to know about the spools being changeable with 10000s.
