REVERSING CAMERA

Post by gus666 » Tue Dec 03 2019 21:58

I noticed a few guys have mentioned they've got reversing cameras on their vehicles, can anybody recommend a kit for fitting to a VW Transporter?
Cheers!

Best get one that’s built into the rear brake light Goose. Other shitters you have too start drilling holes in your new brief👍🏻

Think I paid about £150 for my transit set up. Perfect for Parkin right up the neeburs a**e

VW have a camera that is combined with the VW badge.
Unobtrusive, no drilling, proven wiring route and fuse slot.

Not cheap but quality never is.

My dash cam has a rear facing cam which can be handy when you’re towing just to see the boat/ trailer. The reverse cam is ok but you’re better looking in mirror to be honest

I've not got a rear view mirror, van has no windows in the back doors.
But i'll look at the type you mentioned. Was thinking about a dash cam as well.

Gus, you can get a viewing screen for them which clips onto/over a rear view mirror, I had to have a rear view mirror fitted as my van has a bulk head and did not have one, it works very well.
I mainly use it when hitching up a trailer, I wished I had one fitted years ago.

Doh! I'm really on the ball this week!
So what you're saying Will (and oftenblank) is that the camera sits on the same space as the rear view mirror and is basically a camera version of it?

No Gus, not exactly, what goes into the space where your rear view mirror is just the screen for viewing what the camera picks up, on my van (which is a VW T5) the camera itself is located in the plastic shroud which houses the number plate lights just above the number plate, very discrete lens, only the size of a pea.

Sorry guys, I thought we were talking about a rear view only camera, that is what I have and what I described above, the screen which is mounted on my rear view mirror is activated whenever the van is placed in reverse gear and the camera is angled down for a view of the tow hitch.
The screen in the link that OB has put up is very similar to mine, same idea anyway.
I have not got around to having forward facing dash cam fitted yet, although I intend to do so soon.

Will.

This won’t fit a T5, the badge is just stuck on, has to be a factory flip badge for a camera to be added
