Smart storage solutions

Post by Danoutdoors » Tue Jan 14 2020 17:34

Anyone want to share any smart storage solutions you’ve employed on your boats? I’m thinking of making a few changes and also try to make the most of wasted space on my boat this year, anyone had any clever ideas? Cheers👍

You can buy screw sealed hatches with a flexible bag attached to the permantly fitted sealed female compontent. Not used them personally but have seen them on small boats and jet skis.
Moulded grp box like storage is also available with hinged and locks on the door.
If you capable, and you have a sealed deck you can cut a hole that will take a screw in sealed cap and form a storage area by blowing foam under the deck to form a storage of whatever size you require.

Hope this helps.

Couple of ideas - available from chandlers (I use Marine Scene) -

1. Sheet bags: Canvas bags designed to hold the "sheets" (ropes) that work sails on a sailing boat. They can be attached to the inside of the boat and are really useful for holding small items. I've got three installed, dark brown canvas. Come in various sizes.

2. Rode bags: netting bags designed to hold anchor rope. I have one at the front end of the boat on one side, screwed on to the gunnel. Will hold a lot of rope - 200ft plus in my case. I also store the bow anchor in it - a 5kg Bruce type with 15ft heavy chain.

Osculati lockers and hatches worth a look, if you have box section seats already just cut a hole
Paint inside with locker paint, bond some dividers to stop equipment sliding then fit a hatch.

I do have box section seats and did think about doing something like that but I wondered if they held any floatation foam or anything and also as they were not intended to be seen how much of a state they would be in there, any ideas? It’s a Orkney I have, thanks

Hi Dan
Just been into Force 4.
The round hatches and the flexible storage bags are made by RIVO
Diameters from 5" to 10" made in white and black, bags are in red and sold seperately so I couldn't see the depths.

Hope this helps.

Here you go Grant,
https://www.force4.co.uk/rwo-barnie-bin ... %20hatches&

RIVO = RWO when you see the printing on the lables you will know how easy it was to misread.

Personally I would buy their waterproof hatch and make my own bags from sail cloth.

I bought these from a local Chandler's a few years ago. Watertight seals.

Tote boxes with lids for the anchors and ropes.
Festool systainer interlocking boxes, one for cookset and larger one for tackle.
Bedchair organiser clipped to the gunnells for unhooking tools and small bits.
